Command Sergeant Major (Retired) Adams B. Robbins Sr. 91 of Junction City, Kansas, died Saturday January 20, 2018 at Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan, Kansas. Adams B. Robbins was born July 1st 1926 in Live Oak, Texas to Marcus and Lucille (Bouldin) Robbins.
After completing two years of college, Adams joined the United States Army March 5, 1955, attended basic combat training at Fort Ord. California, and advanced individual training at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. Duty assignments include a tour to Korea, 2 tours in Vietnam and 3 tours to Germany.
October 1968 Adams was assigned First Sergeant of the 18th Engineer Brigade at Dong Ba Tihn, Vietnam as the very first TO&E Land Clearing Company in the United States Army.
Adams entered the US Army Sergeants Major Academy in 1974; command positions include Command Sergeant Major of the 3rd Battalion, 4th AIT Brigade, Ft. Leonard Wood, MO; Command Sergeant Major of the 9th Engineer Battalion, Aschaffnesburg, Germany; and Command Sergeant Major 7th Engineer Brigade, Ludenorff Kaserne, Kornwestheim, Germany. Adams also served as Chief Administration Instructor (ROTC) at Polytechnic Institute, Brooklyn, New York.
Adam’s military awards and merits include Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal with 3D Oak Leaf Cluster, National Defense Medal, Good Conduct Medal 8th Award, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and Vietnam Service Medal. After serving 26 years, three months and twenty one days; Adams retired from the 937th Engineer Group, Ft. Riley, KS United States Army.
Adams made Junction City, KS his home and where he established Robbins Cab Company, which ran successfully for more than three decades in the Junction City/ Manhattan, KS area before venturing solely into limousine service and vehicle detail “R &R Auto Detailing and Limousine Services”.
Adams Robbins was a member of Morris Hill Gospel Chapel for 30 years and was a member of the men’s choir, usher board and served as an elder of the church up until his death.
November 2016 Adam received the Quilt of Valor, this honor is meant to “cover service members and veterans touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor”.
Adams leaves behind wife Helga Robbins of Junction City; other survivors: Two daughters: Louise (Robbins) Tennard and Betty Robbins both of Houston Texas; two sons: Adam B Robbins Jr of Arlington, Texas and James Edward Robbins of Houston, Texas; step son Dr. Guy A Cognet II of Kansas City, MO; and Sister Anita (Robbins) Perkins of Houston Texas; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Adams is preceded in death by both parents, two brothers Lamar H Robbins and Kermit Robbins and Sister Mildred (Robbins) Proctor.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 26, 2018 at Penwell-Gabel Junction City Chapel in Junction City. A visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday January 25, 2018, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery in Manhattan, Kansas. The U.S. Army Honor Guard from Ft. Riley at the cemetery will provide military Honors.
