Gladys Jean Dickinson, 65, of Junction City, KS, passed away on Monday, May 15, 2017 at Salina Regional Health Center. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at the Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ 239 W. 5th Street Junction City, Kansas with Pastor William Ocean officiating. Private inurnment will take place at a later date.

Mrs. Gladys Jean Dickinson was born on September 21st, 1951 in Malakoff, Texas, to Austell and Thelma Smith. She was one of 6 children. As a young woman, she moved to Junction City, KS., graduating in 1969 from Junction City High School. After graduation, she moved to California where she would become a long-distance truck driver. This was one of the things she was most proud of. Upon her returned to Junction City in the late 1970’s, her life took a wonderful turn as she received the love and saving grace of God into her heart and accepted the love of Jesus into her life, while attending the Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ, 5th and Adams. This would be her church home for the remainder of her life. Gladys loved God and was devoted to his work, faithfully serving him and her church with great dedication. She was the most friendliest woman in Junction City. It is said of Gladys that she knows everybody, and everybody knows her.

She met the love of her life, Benjamin, in 1982 and they were married on August 13th, 1983. Gladys worked as a respiratory therapist at Geary Community Hospital earlier in life, and for several years worked at the Geary County Head Start Program. She had a great love for children and a love for teaching them. She departed this life on May 15th, 2017 at the Salina Regional Medical Center after an extended illness.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband Benjamin who lovingly cared for her unto the end; a brother, Anthony Smith of Junction City, four nephews, Isaac Comer and Eric Washington of Wichita, KS., and Oscar Jr. Smith and David Smith of Los Angeles, CA., a niece, Tracy Washington of Kansas City, Mo. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, two brothers, Willis Smith and Oscar Smith, two sisters, Elaine Smith and Carrie Smith. Condolences may be sent to The Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ, PO Box 1192, Junction City, KS. 66441. Attn: Gladys.
